WEST HOLLYWOOD.
Surya, the Hindu sun god, is the inspiration at this bright, pleasant restaurant where the sunburst is a recurring motif. Some of the most innovative Indian cuisine in all of Los Angeles is served here, including fresh fish and herbs, which are combined in traditional Indian methods. You'll also be delighted by tandoori lobster and tandoori sea bass and see that catfish pakoras make for a standout appetizer. Locals, however, favor mint chicken, which comes slavered in a sauce of fresh mint, cilantro and Serrano chiles. Bread puddings serve as a sweet ending, and a full selection of beers and wines is available as well.

This is one of the best Indian restaurants in the city??? I certainly don't see how it could be rated so highly. I read all kinds of great things about this place and decided to take my parents there when they came to town. But it turned out to be a very mediocre restaurant at best. It's not in a particularly good location. You MUST use the valet parking if you want to drive there; there's no parking to be found anywhere nearby. As far as the restaurant itself goes, I had the chicken tikka masala. My parents had two other dishes. None of us enjoyed the food, all rather bland. I can only suppose it's supposed to be "Americanized" Indian food that caters to American tastes. If it's authentic, zesty Indian food you want, I don't recommend this place at all.

I was visiting LA from San Francisco and stopped by this beautiful restaurant. The food was outstanding and the owner was very hospitable. The best Indian cuisine I have ever tasted.

After seeing this restaurant on TV we drove up to try it. I had the Chicken Mangalorean and my husband had the Lamb Mangalorean. Both dishes were excellent and this is the best Indian food I have had in California to date. Definitely worth a trip to try it out.
