ENCINO. As the name promises, Delmonico's is the spot to visit if you're in the mood for lobster. Among the myriad ways the kitchen prepares the crustacean are as risotto, as cakes, as a cocktail, and stuffed. Craving something different? Linguine and clams, succulent veal dishes, and seared steaks satisfy even the heartiest appetites. Be sure to ask your server for a wine to complement the meal – the staff are well-trained and are sure to suggest an excellent vintage.

CALABASAS. This cozy bistro-style spot will charm any seafood lover. Favorite appetizers include perfectly steamed mussels, crisp crab cakes, and grilled ahi tuna salad. The signature dish is halibut wrapped in a macadamia nut crust and topped with Thai peanut sauce. Locals also swear by Alaskan king crab legs and Southern-style catfish. A selection of steaks and pastas will satisfy any non-seafood eaters in your crew. Sultry jazz is often on the menu and will have you lingering late into the night.

WEST HOLLYWOOD. This casual, kosher spot is popular with the lunch crowd, who mainly carry out delicious, simply-grilled fish dishes. Generous portions of tuna, trout, and salmon arrive with hot, fresh fries on the side (or rice pilaf, for a healthier choice). Salads topped with grilled fish filets come with a sweet honey-dijon dressing. Sides include cole slaw and baked potatoes. A great choice for a quick, healthy, and cheap meal.

MALIBU. Malibu locals flock to this casual joint – right off the famed PCH – to sample classic West Coast comfort food on the oceanfront patio. The concept is simple: just step up to the counter and place your order for fish taquitos, classic fish-n-chips, peel-and-eat shrimp, or fresh Maine lobster. A market-style atmosphere pervades, which is appropriate since the place doubles as a real fish and seafood market. Patrons expecting white linens and fine china should prepare themselves for a slightly more casual affair – yes, those are picnic tables. The BYO policy is a lifesaver for folks who can't imagine calamari without a good white wine.

HOLLYWOOD. East Coast-style seafood travels west to this hip, casual restaurant. Oysters, clams, and crab cakes are stars of the dinner menu – try Dungeness crab with black rice and spicy coconut sauce or a half-pound of deliciously fresh peel-and-eat shrimp. If you're more into turf than surf, the "Pug Burger" – bacon, avocado, and blue cheese – has your name on it. Lunch and Sunday brunch also bring crowds to the tiny spot, so make reservations early. If the weather permits, take a seat on the laid-back patio.
