SAN JOSE DEL CABO. The freshwater Rio San Jose flows into the sea at this point, and the resulting estuary has been designated a protected reserve. More than 200 species of birds can be spotted here, including egrets, herons and brown pelicans. Although the beachfront is open to pedestrian traffic, the surf is too powerful for swimming. A walking path winds along the outskirts of the preserve, and during June, sea lion sightings are common. You can also rent a kayak if you would like to explore the area more thoroughly.
