CABO SAN LUCAS. In 1896, a traveler named Julio Gomez built a trading post on this site. Coinciding with the return of the swallows to Mission San Juan Capistrano, Gomez came back every year to restock the post, eventually earning himself the nickname "La Golondrina" (The Swallow) – hence this restaurant's name. Today, La Golodrina supplies hungry locals and tourists with quantities of fresh shrimp and lobster, piled high platters of pasta, and Mexican favorites. The massive meals come with soup, salad, rice and beans or potatoes, and bread – no one leaves hungry! The main menu is printed on a huge board, with a slightly smaller one listing salads and lighter dishes, and the atmosphere is rustically charming with trees and hanging plants bedecked in fairy lights.
