2. Kentucky State Fair

The Buzz -- This popular event originated in the late 1700s as a series of informal, cooperative sheep shearings and took on its modern-day format in the early 1800s. It then became a state-recognized event in 1901, and Louisville became the permanent site of the fair in 1907. Concerts, carnival rides, terrific food, and lots of games characterize the family-friendly event, which also features livestock shows and competitions that focus on tropical fish, cut flowers, hobbies, antiques, and more.
