The English Grill is considered one of Louisville's finest restaurants. As one critic has written, this restaurant is "as close to perfection as a restaurant can come." The seasonal menu includes such noteworthy entrees as grilled loin of lamb marinated with mint and lemon and superb breast of duck with terrine of foie gras and corn. The appetizer, soup, salad, and dessert choices are also wonderful. Chef Joe Castro has received numerous awards and prepares a variety of dishes with a perfectionist's touch. Prix fixe menu $95; with wine, $150. Party of four required for the prix fixe menu.   (© 10Best)

The chef offers a Continental menu with Kentucky flair and celebrates the Bluegrass State's agriculture by using local produce. The menu changes seasonally, but whatever you do, be sure to order the dessert soufflé, and order it early. It takes a good 35 minutes to make, but it's worth it. Flavors vary every day. You can also get a seat at the Chef's table for dinner. The seven-course repast includes wine parings. (from Southern Living)

My husband and I chose English Grill because of the high recommendations on 10Best website. We were so pleased and impressed by the wonderful experience. A pianist playing a grand piano greeted us when we first stepped off the elevator into the lobby. As we walked toward the entrance we were surrounded by pictures of English horses and wooden wall panels in a warmly lit, but not too darkened lighted entry. We were greeted and taken to our seats at a white clothed table with only two chairs and a candle lit, just prepared for us (and we were no special persons, but felt like it). Our glasses were filled with clear cold water by a handsome young man and our waitress answered our questions and gave us recommendations and explanations, and we never felt like she was talking down to us once. Elegant service and yet not stuffy and presupposing. There was an appetizer served complements of the chef, which we had heard was an award winning chef. Our food was delicious, needing no seasoning with salt or pepper. I cannot express how perfect the steak was and how original and designed the setting and choice of food for each course was. The portions were just right and we made it through to the dessert course with our appetite for flavors fully satisfied and yet not stuffed. The dessert choices were classy and we were offered sharing arrangements when we ordered one dessert. If you are looking for a restaurant that cares for every detail of your desire for a romantic experience with your loved one or a quiet impressive dinner with your most important clientele, this restaurant is the plum to pick for a fine dining experience.
