4. Heine Bros. Coffee

Owned by a former copywriter and a lawyer, this popular local chain serves as a frequent neighborhood hangout thanks to its great coffees. An institution since 1992, Heine Brothers' Coffee boasts five locations, touting fair trade organically grown beans. The owners take pride in their basic blends as well as their lattes and cappuccinos. Best-sellers include the medium mocha and, in the summer, the Iceberg (it's like a coffee milk shake). Sadly, I no longer live in Louisville, but when I did, Heine Bros. Coffee was the gem of my neighborhood. Heine Bros. sells what is flat out the best cup of coffee in the River City. More than a coffee shop, it is a genuine neighborhood hub. There is no finer beverage than Yemen Mocha Matari. It is the 30-year old scotch of caffeinated drinks. You can't get it at Starbucks. All Heine Bros. needs at its Bardstown Road location is BETTER SEATS. Not very comfortable. Otherwise, this is one my favorite places in Louisville.
