7. Sari Sari

This tiny, authentic Philippine restaurant promises you won't be "sorry" you came to dine here. Chef/co-owner Lourdes Fronteras says the bistro's name actually means "a little bit of everything." So don't be afraid to experiment. Try the lumpia, a Chinese-inspired vegetable mixture fried in an egg roll wrapper. And don't pass up the Chicken Adobo, simmered in a vinegar, soy, and garlic marinade, spiced with peppercorns, star anise, and bay leaf. It also comes with jasmine rice and Fillipino-style red beans. Contrary to the Southern Living review and others, such as one found in Louisville magazine, this is not authentic Filipino cuisine. It's a fusion of Mexican and Filipino, with heavy Mexican flavors. This is fine, but as a Filipino, it's frustrating to see something labeled "authentic," when it is clearly not. There is NO SUCH THING as Filipino-style red beans. You will not find such a dish served with any traditional Filipino meal -- find any Filipino and ask them.
