Overview
Lugano is a little touch of Italy just south of the Swiss Alps, and is the most inviting city in the Canton of Ticino. Everything here, including the food, language, music, and even the mild weather, reflects Italian culture. Located on the peaceful shores of Lake Lugano, the city moves at its own pace. There aren't a lot of historic landmarks, but the scenic town is quite charming and presents tourists with a number of recreational activities. The surrounding hills and countryside are ripe for outdoor adventure. The lake provides opportunities for sailing, swimming and sunbathing, while nearby peaks such as San Salvatore are perfect for hiking and sightseeing. Visitors should also check out the wonderful private art collection at Villa Favorita as well as the small, but impressive, Museo Cantonale d'Arte.
