The city of Lyon established a four-year campaign to restore and preserve this artistic and historic site. Built in the 1880's by architect G. Andre, this theater is one of the most representative of Italian-style theatres. Although it was scorched by fire twice, the rebuilt theater is still home to impressive Renaissance decoration and paintings. The painting "La Comedie d'Aristophane" by J. Domer still remains on the ceiling in the main hall.
