Originally built for the staging of tragic and comedic plays, this theater was expanded in the second century A.D. to accommodate 11,000 spectators. It is overlooked by two statues of the Victory. A post located in the center of the arena reminds visitors that the amphitheatre was also used as a sacrificial site for the early martyrs.
