The construction for this mosque began in 1992, with most of its funding coming from King Fahd of Saudi Arabia. This mosque has a modern look compared to the centuries old cathedrals of Lyon, but it is strikingly lovely with its glass pyramid held by 230 columns at its entrance. The direction of Mecca is indicated in the prayer rooms, and the famous Muslim verse "there is no other God than God and Mohammed is his prophet" is displayed.
