With beautiful decor and detailed sculptures, the hotel is exquisite. Eight bells located in the hotel's Bell Tower are still used today and visited by musicians from around the world. Designed by S. Maupin, the hotel has four large buildings encompassing a courtyard. The hotel was originally designed to reflect the ambitions of the city of Lyon. Since its completion in 1674, the hotel has undergone many changes. Its original structure follows the Louis XIII plan. Louis XIV and other dignitaries were received here after additions were made to the hotel during the rule of the Second Empire.
