|
The old, impressive Palais de Justice was built on the banks of the Saone River between 1835 and 1845. Its architect, L.P. Baltard, gave it the look of a Greco-Roman temple, as classical antiquity was in-style for architecture during his time. This neo-classical establishment has 24 fluted columns, Corinthian capitals and a monumental staircase. The palace is structured around \"la salle des pas perdus,\" where the accused and their lawyers waited to go before the judge.
