Cafe 203 French Resistance
Christophe Cédat, the owner lives up to the spirit of the French resistance, Lyon being the historical heart of the WW2 movement. When the no smoking ban went into effect the owner of Café 203 thumbed his nose at this pesky law. Determined to be a place were having a café or dining always included the pleasure of a cigarette, he was willing to risk penalties and the possibility of forced closure.
After several citations the authorities now have forced Cafe 203 to close for eights days to comply or end its restaurant business.
Cédat is threatening to abandon Lyon altogether and head to Barcelona, disappointed that his regular customers and neighbors have shown lackluster support. This drama continues to unfold as a move now in the current economic climate may be more the huffing and puffing of anger than the noted Cartesian logical thinking à la fançaise.
