DOWNTOWN.   Romantic and intimate, Porta Bella has entranced Madison diners since 1968, and loyal patrons give it praise for food and ambience again and again. Lush dishes include meaty lasagna, shrimp tetrazzini, oven-baked salmon, and a NY strip stuffed with spinach, mushrooms, almonds, and mozzarella. Pastas (both stuffed and topped) also draw raves, and a wine suggestion follows each item on the menu. Desserts are worth saving room for, especially the tiramisu and the cannoli. Downstairs, Porta Bella's Cellar stocks a wide array of beers, wines, and other libations and serves as a pleasant hangout. Reservations accepted Sunday-Thursday.   (© 10Best)

The atmosphere is nice and just knowing that it has been a Madison mainstay for generations is nice. But when it comes to the food, I found that anything that has a sauce was kind of gummy. Stick with the pizza and sandwiches.

The atmosphere is amazing. But I have to say the food wasn't good at all except the soup and the porta salad. We had the Sunday special and lasagna. We barely touched it. Everything else including service was perfect. But still a waste of money.

A beautiful restaurant to relax in with your favorite person (or people). Rich flavors with a great wine list- or just go to the wine bar if you're only in the mood for some spirits. You'll truly feel rich basking in the gorgeous atmosphere of the Porta Bella.
