CHAMBERI.   This castle is a two-century work in progress. Originally built as a hunting lodge for Charles I and later expanded to a palace by Philip II in the 1560s, the palace was later a summer retreat for European aristocracy. A range of renowned architects played a role in the development of the building. Tapestries, mosaics and classical paintings highlight the tour. The exquisite gardens inspired Rodrigo's famous Concierto de Aranjuez. TRAIN: Cercanías – C-3 from Atocha. Tren de Fresa "Strawberry Train", a steam train serving strawberries from Atocha (ticket price includes entrance to Aranjuez palace and gardens).   (© 10Best)

This is not located at Madrid, but in Aranjuez, a small town 50 km far from the city of Madrid. And old palace, fountains and gardens, the best for a walk in a spring afternoon.
