CENTRO. Escape from the busy hum of the city by visiting the botanical garden of Madrid. The garden was originally built under Charles III by Juan de Villanueva and the botanist Gómez Ortega in 1781. When it finally opened in 1791, it already contained 30,000 different plants. You can wonder through the gardens and see plants from five continents. Don't leave without seeing the 250-year old cypress.
