1. Areia

An ex-Irish bar, Areia traveled east and picked up a load of loungers, scatter cushions, wall hangings and scented candles on the way. Transformed beyond all recognition into a gorgeously cool and laid-back "colonial chill-out" space, Areia attracts a cosmopolitan crowd of students and young hipsters. In the afternoon, it's a great place to linger over a little lunch or a light snack and coffee; after nightfall it fills with writhing bodies swigging cocktails as the DJs spin a bewitching blend of house, summery Balearic beats, dub and, naturally, chill-out sounds.
