5. El Escarpín

This cavernous Asturian cider tavern has the typical stripped down no-nonsense look of its kind. Start off with a bottle of the natural apple cider – the barman will shake it and pour it over a bucket from a height of three feet to carbonate it naturally. Drink it immediately before the bubbles disappear. Asturian bar food is also a world of its own with hefty meals like fabada (a stew of beans and pork cooked with cider) or lacón (gammon steak), along with tasty snacks like blue Cabrales cheese and flaming chorizo sausage cooked at the table in cider.
