A Madrid tapas bar straight out of central casting, this 150-year-old town house has all the traditional accoutrements, from bullfighting posters to Andalusian pottery. Behind the bar, chef Miguel Benavente and his team busily prepare traditional tapas – you won't suffer any parmesan foam and vodka ice cream here. Expect classics such as cured mountain ham and croquettes, along with the famous house dish of mejimecha (marinated mussels with ham and onions in béchamel sauce). The tapas are not especially cheap, ranging from around €6-7.50, but are of excellent quality. Budget-conscious patrons may prefer the combination platter, which comes with a glass of house Rioja.
