Founded in 1914, this is one of the oldest and certainly one of the most charming cake shops in the capital. Entering the old wooden door into this small, old-fashioned space is like stepping back in time – and the cakes haven't changed much either. Duquesita's specialties are sticky gooey cakes made with fine quality chocolate, cream, truffle and pastry. Other standouts include traditional sweets, such as yemas (candied egg yolks) and brazos de gitanos ("gypsies' arms," a cream-filled pastry). The shop's especially famous for Christmas confectionary, particularly its turrón (blocks of nougat) and roscones de reyes (pastries filled with cream, custard or chocolate, eaten for Kings Day on January 6).
