CONCORD. History buffs can recapture a bit of American history when they pay a visit to this charming little town, site of the first battle of the War for Independence. Sites like the Minute Man National Historical Park and North Bridge Battleground Area seek to preserve the city's important role during the Revolution. A mecca of sorts for aficionados of American literature, the Concord area has also served as the stomping grounds of such figures as Henry David Thoreau, Louisa May Alcott, Ralph Waldo Emerson, and Nathaniel Hawthorne, each of whom are recognized at various sites in and around town.
