CONCORD. Nestled on the banks of the Concord River, Old Manse was the gathering point for the Colonists' first organized armed resistance against the British on April 19, 1775. Built by Ralph Waldo Emerson's grandfather, Reverend William Emerson, Old Manse still contains a treasure trove of antique furnishings, including an old Steinway grand piano and a writing desk that belonged to Nathaniel Hawthorne. The site features a gift shop, and guided tours are available seasonally.
