7. Le Planteur

FORT-DE-FRANCE.   Decorated in gray-blue and canary yellow, this cozy restaurant offers a touch of the Continent in tropical Martinique while also paying hommage to the island's colonial past. The Creole menu is not without its French influences: Fricassée de Chatrou (octopus), Filet de Boeuf Grillé in old rum sauce, and Sole Meunière with potatoes. Be sure to save room for dessert, as few things in life are as delightful as their Banane Flambée, Coupe Connel (lime sorbet in vodka), or Coupe du Planteur (coconut ice cream, passion fruit sorbet, and raisins macerated in rum.)
