More about Martinsville

Nestled in the foothills of the breathtaking Blue Ridge Mountains, Martinsville is in the heart of Henry County near the North Carolina-Virginia border. Situated between Greensboro and Winston-Salem, North Carolina to the south and Roanoke, Virginia to the north, the city was established in the late 19th century. The area has a population of slightly more than 16,000 residents, who hold to their town slogan: "A City Without Limits." Residents take great pride in local attractions that include the Virginia Museum of Natural History, the Piedmont Museum and the Blue Ridge Institute & Museum, and the flourishing Walker Fine Arts Center. A thriving business community fosters the growth of industry, textiles and manufacturing concerns. Outdoor activities abound on the lakes and in the parks and nature preserves in the region, and trout fishing is a popular pastime along the Smith River. With several notable buildings dating to the late 1700s, the Uptown Historic District is a favorite with history buffs and walking-tour enthusiasts. Thousands travel to the lovely area each year to watch racing events at Martinsville Speedway where drivers have competed since 1948, the year NASCAR was founded.
