About Mason City
Sleepy Mason City, Iowa—population 30,000—has had several brushes with fame through the years. The Stockman House, completed in 1908, was Iowa's first and only Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Prairie-style residence. Local leaders were so impressed with Wright's work that he was commissioned to design and build a hotel and a bank. Mason City's Park Inn Hotel became the inspiration for Tokyo's Imperial Hotel.
