KULA.   In the late 1800's, Portuguese Catholics migrated to Maui to work on sugar plantations. Their strong faith migrated as well, and thus the Kula Catholic community blossomed from this Maui site. The Church of the Holy Ghost was lavishly decorated with Portuguese influence - from the altar to the Stations of the Cross. This impressive Maui church has been recognized by the Hawaii Register of Historical Places, and is a popular locale for weddings and devoted church members.   (© 10Best)
