Overview

The Pacific coast of Mexico is aptly named "The Mexican Riviera" because of its idyllic landscape, picture-perfect beaches, and of course, its resort towns. Mazatlán is one of the oldest and most favored by travelers because it offers the lavishness of a resort while retaining its individuality. Starting in the 1950s, Mazatlán attracted visitors wanting to relax on golden beaches, sample various cuisines, and experience Mexican culture. And unlike some of the other resort cities in Mexico, Mazatlán continues to provide a slice of paradise at affordable prices. The dining and hotel scene offers a range of possibilities for almost any type of traveler, and the city's Golden Zone is the main area for enjoying the beach, first-rate cuisine, and shopping. However, it's also easy to escape to one of the isolated islands that dot the coast for a respite from the crowds. Some of the main sightseeing attractions include El Faro, the tallest natural lighthouse in the world, and Acuario Mazatlán, Mexico's largest aquarium. The avid shopper will want to visit Mercado Central, the city's open-air market located in the downtown area. It may seem like a stretch to imagine a sunny dreamland that's within everybody's reach, but Mazatlán truly delivers on making that a reality.
