About Memphis Events
Memphis is a city brimming with character and its residents are known for their loyalty. Thus, River City celebrations tend to showcase what it's most proud of, blues and barbecue. At any given time, there is likely to be a celebration of Memphis' musical heritage or its mouth-watering delicacies. The largest and most famous of these festivals is the month long Memphis in May International Festival, during which both the Beale Street Music Festival and the World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest take place. The Beale Street Music Festival spans three days and over sixty top artists perform a mix of blues, rock, gospel and alternative on four stages. The World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest and self proclaimed "Super Bowl of Swine" attracts over 90,000 pork lovers from around the globe. You've never seen barbecue like this. Other music festivals include Blues on the Bluffs during the summer and the Memphis Music and Heritage Festival in September. But Memphis offers much more than solely blues and barbecue. Memphians are also proud of their history, as is displayed at the Juneteenth Freedom and Heritage Festival. -- Elizabeth Baxley, 10Best Editor
