About Memphis Nightlife
As can be expected from a city that claims to be the birthplace of rock n' roll and the home of the blues, the emphasis of nightlife here is live music. Beale Street, home of the most popular bars and restaurants in town, is always crowded with locals and visitors alike soaking up the sounds of the city. While some of the stops can be a little touristy with neon signs and cover bands, you can't visit Memphis without having a drink on Beale. The clubs are open until 5am and covers are rarely more than $10. Some of the most popular joints are B.B. King's and Alfred's on Beale. A more recent addition to the neighborhood is The Black Diamond, a smaller, more locals oriented bar situated right next to B.B. King's. Elsewhere, Overton Square Entertainment District, located in the heart of Midtown, has a number of bars, restaurants, and night clubs. Hi-Tone Cafe, recently voted the best place to see live music in Memphis, is located here. Other popular districts include the Cooper-Young District, known for its more artistic feel, and Cordova, home to the best burger in town at Huey's. If you're in the mood for a more eclectic, high-energy scene, don't miss Memphis' rowdiest nightclub, Original Hollywood Disco Lounge located downtown. -- Elizabeth Baxley, 10Best Editor
