DOWNTOWN.   Talk about a history! The building that houses Earnestine & Hazel's had a split personality in its original heyday: by day it was a dry goods retailer and by night a brothel. For those who prefer swanky neighborhood dives, this local gem is just the place. A surprising – and eclectic – crowd of young professionals and downtown regulars floods here after work, and most are still around late when the jukebox fires up jazz, blues or whatever happens to be on the bill for the evening. Should you get hungry, you'll definitely want to sample one of their famous burgers, rumored to be among the best in Memphis.   (© 10Best)

I been in Memphis for 8 years and I been told that this place is a must visit. I went with a group of friends on a South Main Gallery Tour night. They had a very poor and basic beer selection, plus their burgers that they are suppose to be famous for is just a basic frozen patty cooked in a nasty griddle and served on plain white toast. It cost extra if you want a slice of Kraft cheese slapped on the burger. Don;t worry you get to see the bartender putting it together at the back of the bar. Nothing special here. A true waste of time and money. That plain burger will cost Seven Bucks. My friends and i were just disappointed. We even stayed an hour cause we felt sorry for the bartender. We were the only people in there. AVOID THIS PLACE. If you go, don;t say you were not warn.

This hole in the wall bar is one of the best places in Memphis. You have to try the "Soul Burger," there is not a better burger anywhere! Be careful if you go upstairs - great place to possibly see a ghost. If you can't make it upstairs just hit the jukebox, the best around!
