9. The Peabody Memphis

Wow! What an overpriced room! I paid over $1000 a night for a room in which you have to put your room card in a slot on the elevator to be able to get to.....which was nice. But, you walk in and there is a King bed, a mirrored closet, a cheap tv, and a very dingy and outdated bathroom. Do not waste your money!!

I stayed at the Peabody for a conference a few years ago. This property is definitely the most luxurious in Memphis. Close to nightlife and other activities, the Peabody is a welcome haven after a day of shopping, or a night of partying. The lobby is regal, with a fabulous marble fountain in the center where four resident ducks spend their day. I could easily have spent my whole trip in the lobby, and would have returned home satisfied. The resident ducks are a wonderful addition to the charm of the property. Every morning and evening, with much pomp and circumstance, the ducks are ushered to and from the elevator to the fountain, or to their spacious pen on the roof. It is my understanding that these ducks are from a long lineage of "Peabody ducks". The staff is cordial and professional. My only "complaint" would be that their restaurant could not make a decent latte.(This was a few years ago, and I am from Seattle, so I am spoiled)!
