DOWNTOWN. This museum brings tears to your eyes as you realize what happened right where you are standing. This is the very spot where Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated in 1968. The museum highlights many major events that occurred during the Civil Rights Movement. Displays include replicas of Martin Luther King Jr.'s Birmingham jail cell and the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Alabama, the site of "the last great parade." The exhibits, audiovisual programs and other interpretive presentations are well done. The neighborhood is safe during the day but not as secure after 10pm.
