7. Leonard's Pit Barbeque

Ok...wife born in Memphis...I was married in Memphis...we love the Germantown Commissary BUT I was introduced to pulled/chopped BBQ pork sandwiches at Leonard's...it's still my favorite and when I make my BBQ in MD this is the place I try to copy...just rock solid...look, I saw the catfish rebuke in another review...if you're going for BBQ don't get the catfish...geez.

Leonard's was one of the original BBQ spots in Memphis, when it was in Midtown, and it was superb. They went through some tough years. They've recovered to have a decent BBQ restaurant. In most cities, it might be one of the best BBQ spots in town. In Memphis, it's just another decent spot.

I can not give it ONE STAR.........This was the worst place to eat; I followed your ratings and the catfish was on the buffet table. It was dry and had NO TASTE. We did not even think to have dessert there. WHO SAID THIS WAS A 5 STAR restaurant- THE OWNER. DON'T GO if you are wanting to taste true BARBECUE.

Limo was a nice touch, service was lousy and the rids were dry and flavorless, our food was slopped all over the plate and the pulled pork sandwich's bun was hard as a rock. Which surprised us because the joint wasn't even busy.

Best home-cooked tasting food I've ever had.
