4. Memorial Opera House

VALPARAISO.   A classic, small-town opera house, this red-brick Victorian structure dates from 1893, when it was constructed to honor Porter County's Civil War veterans – in fact, a plaque over the main entrance reads simply, "The Soldiers and Sailors of 1861-5." Throughout its history, the opera house has afforded Valparaiso citizens countless opportunities to enjoy theater and concert performances, from turn-of-the-century vaudeville shows to perennial favorites like "Little Shop of Horrors" and "The King and I."   (© 10Best)
