1. Community Theatre Guild

VALPARAISO.   Valparaiso's Community Theatre Guild dates to the mid-1950s, when a crowd of local theater buffs gathered for a charity event and had so much fun they decided to organize, meet again, and put on a larger show, "Papa Is All." In those early days, they performed at Valpo's Memorial Opera House, presenting a repertoire of traditional drama and musicals. In the mid-'90s, the group bought, remodeled, and moved into their own venue, the Chicago Street Theater (actually an old Assemblies of God church). Today, award-winning shows run throughout the year.   (© 10Best)
