CENTRO HISTORICO. If you need a little bit of nature to surround you when visiting the city, you won't have to travel far to get to the Alameda Central, the city's oldest park that's dotted with trees and visited by pedestrians out for a stroll. History reveals that the grounds were once an Aztec marketplace and also a gruesome execution site during the Spanish Inquisition. The eastern side of this natural oasis houses the Palacio de Bellas Artes (Palace of Fine Arts), an exotic building that features a concert hall, museum and theatre. While at the park, be sure to visit the mural painted by Diego Rivera that's located in close proximity. The 1947 mural displays the park and its many visitors throughout time by way of the artist's imagination. (© 10Best) More Details for Alameda Central |
