SOUTH BEACH. Regarded by many locals as South Beach's hottest dance club, Opium Garden gives trend-setters the chance to party inside or out. First, however, you'll have to posture a bit to get past the club's discriminating velvet rope, which remains fairly taut during Miami's peak season. It's then that a who's-who of starlets, music industry moguls and pro athletes (entourage in tow) gain access with a nod to the doorman and accompanying swagger. Chinese lanterns and golden Buddha statues showcase the club's Zen bent, and sensuous sound, lighting and fog set a dreamlike scene for beautiful people intent on partying till dawn.

SOUTH BEACH. Ensconced in a former Art Deco theater, this club is as vast and conspicuous as its name. Boasting typical SoBe panache, it's dressed with grand arches, chandeliers, sweeping staircases, Venetian mirrors and ornate fireplaces, is awash in glamour, and observes a velvet-rope policy, so come dressed to impress. Inside, four dance floors thump with music across three levels, and nine bars handle thirsty patrons. Lounges and VIP areas also find plenty of traffic. Moreover, celebrities are common, the level of sociability is enormously high, and top DJs definitely spin to please.

DOWNTOWN. When Miami's top DJs rock downtown, nine times out of ten you'll find them at this 11th Street hotspot, a high-octane warehouse-turned-dance club that attracts more than its share of the SoBe hipster crowd. In the cavernous main room, where professional DJs with names like Roland and the Lizard Man keep the party going long after sunrise, you'll find 30,000 square feet of dance space, one of Miami's loudest sound systems, and a dazzling light show. An open-air patio at the rear of the club is a primo place to catch a little fresh air, escape from the music, and enjoy some chitchat with your most recent dancing partner.

DOWNTOWN. For Cuban cuisine set to a pop beat, don't miss this cafe owned by singer Gloria Estefan and husband Emilio. Vivid colors, Latin beats, and plenty of bongos (of course!) get you in a festive mood, and the authentic Cuban cuisine is served with creative aplomb. Come early to enjoy a satisfying meal of roasted chicken marinated in orange and lime or the traditional Cuban strip steak. Wash it down with an exotic tropical drink, and then prepare to hit the dance floor, which starts hopping around 11pm. This is a great place to make a night of it. Reservations recommended.

DOWNTOWN. Quirky and whimsical, this nightclub dons vintage furniture, an old school bus and red tin lockers. Eye-catching patrons, including possibly a few celebs, light up at the bars and sip cocktails, while an action-packed dance floor draws break dancers who cut their best moves to 80s and hip-hop beats. The party spills over to an outdoor seating area, flanked with shag carpet and a skate board ramp.

COCONUT GROVE. An alternative to the suave clubs prevalent to the Grove, this happening spot attracts students and twenty-somethings who pack the floor elbow to elbow, jamming to 80s hard rock. The sleek interior only enhances the atmosphere; hardwood floors, red walls, pendant lights and understated geometric designs adorn the two-story space. A variety of DJs, a jukebox, billiards and an energetic clientele keep the scene from ever growing stale.
