EDITOR REVIEW: Built in 1923 in the style of a 16th-century Italian villa, this mansion was once home to Lloyd R. Smith, president of Milwaukee's A.O. Smith Company. Today the home features original furnishings, art and antiques, including a wonderful collection of cast and wrought iron works by noted Milwaukee blacksmith Cyril Colnik. Designed by noted landscape architect Ruth Standish Nichols, the lovely grounds were based on an actual Italian garden. Special events include an ongoing music series at the café and regular art exhibits and lectures. Deeded to the city in 1966, the mansion is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is a National Historic Landmark.
