GREENFIELD. The locals may call this "Garrison" Kopps (check out the décor), and once you taste their frozen custard, you'll forget all about the ever-advancing army of frozen yogurt shops and ice cream parlor chains. The troops inside serve up some of the best frozen custard you will ever taste, with merit badges going especially to the vanilla. Burgers and fries are complemented by a changing "shake of the month," malts, and sundaes. Chocolate and vanilla are always available, with a third flavor changing daily. Worth saluting! (© 10Best) Despite an average annual temperature that hovers around 48 degrees, Milwaukee residents love frozen custard. Though it got its start on the East Coast, custard quickly became a Midwest staple after appearing at the 1933 Chicago World's Fair, and now Milwaukee sells more of the creamy concoction than any other city in the country. Local favorite (it consistently ranks at the top of food critics' lists) Kopp's began in 1950 and sells basic chocolate and vanilla, plus two flavors of the day—anything from German apple streusel to Never Enough Chocolate.
