UPTOWN. David Rockwell designed this seductive dining room, which prominently features the work of Damien Hirsh, a prominent member of the Young British Artist movement. The restaurant encompasses two levels: the lower features intimate maroon banquettes and a large window for peering into the kitchen; the upper level is a stylish street-level cafe. As to the fare, Chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten's creative cookery is evidenced by dishes such as red curry duck with pineapple sambal, soy miso beef tenderloin with baby bok choy, and cod with Malaysian chili sauce.

BLOOMINGTON. A pleasing mix of Cantonese dishes and American favorites can be had at this Bloomington mainstay. Hot and spicy beef, moo goo gai pan, and shrimp with snow peas tempt Chinese-food devotees, while filet mignon, broiled lobster tails, and fried jumbo shrimp entice those looking for a steakhouse experience. An array of soups, noodle dishes, and fried rice is also on offer. Dinner specials are permanent and nightly, often featuring entrees that blend the kitchen's Cantonese and American sensibilities. A kid's menu and a take-out menu win points with families and diners on the run, respectively.

DOWNTOWN. Sure, this engaging restaurant offers up the usual duck, chicken, and curry dishes that you'd expect to find at Minneapolis's oldest and best Thai restaurant. What really sets it apart, however, are the famous spring rolls, which have garnered regional attention since they were introduced at the 1976 State Fair. Along with an extensive menu, Sawatdee also has a beer list that includes Thailand's own brew, Singha. Reservations for large groups are suggested.
