GAUTIER. This refuge, which straddles Alabama and Mississippi, offers a broad spectrum of natural habitats (marshlands, pine forests, and savanna), which are home to a wide variety of fish, waterfowl, birds of prey, mammals, reptiles, and amphibians. Fisherman and hunters are welcome in the park but must carry current permits (white-tailed deer and feral hog hunting in season only). The Grand Bay refuge is administered by the Mississippi Sandhill Crane National Wildlife Refuge, headquartered across the state line in Gautier.
