10. USS Alabama Memorial Park

DOWNTOWN.   Winner of nine battle stars during World War II, the USS "Alabama" logged battle time at Leyte, the Gilbert Islands, and Okinawa. The "Mighty A," as the ship was popularly known, is a South Dakota-class battleship with a crew capacity of over 2200. Its armaments included 48 40-mm guns, 52 20-mm guns, 20 38-caliber guns, and 9 45-caliber guns. Visitors to the park may tour the "Alabama," along with the submarine USS "Drum" and 23 combat aircraft.   (© 10Best)

Our kids were too small to justify the museum admission price. However, there is a park around the museum that is free and worth going to for space to run around and airplanes to look at. Plus a nice view of the battleship! The park closes at dusk. And don't forget a dollar or two (whether you're going to the museum or not) per car for admission into the park.
