DOWNTOWN. Completed in 1833, this antebellum mansion recollects the Old South's opulence, and its grand, white pillars and lovely facade stand as testaments to the timeless quality of 19th-century Greek Revival architecture. Tour guides don period dress and lead visitors through rooms that look much as they did in Oakleigh's pre-Civil War heyday. They're also furnished with rare American and European antiques and personal effects that belonged to those who called the mansion "home." On the grounds, too, are the Cox-Deasy Cottage, a 19th-century, middle-class, Creole residence, and the Mardi Gras Cottage Museum, where folks can learn about the history of Mobile's Mardi Gras festival.
