9. The Firefighter's Charity Ball

The Buzz -- This is a 170 year old tradition that was held to honor the Fire Service. It was discontinued in 1988 and was revived, after 20 years, in 2008 as a non-profit charity Ball to benefit fire safety education programs for all ages. These programs are currently non-funded and fighting for survival. Mobile Fire Rescue Department provides a series of programs for all ages and annually see over 30,000 children in the school and library programs alone. The Firefighter's Ball is a community event. Everyone is invited and encouraged to attend and support the public education programs provided by the fire department. Tickets can be purchased at Mobile's Central Fire Station at 701 St. Francis Street or by calling 251-208-5860. Attire for this event is Cocktail or Formal for the ladies and suits or Formal for men. Fire Department or service uniforms are accepted. This event is BYOB for those age 21 and up.
