9. Wintzell's Oyster House

DOWNTOWN.   Known for quirky decor, friendly service, and terrifically fresh oysters, Wintzell's is a must for first-time visitors to Mobile. In fact, so revered is this Mobile stalwart that TV's own Willard Scott recognized its oysters and crabs in his "All-American Cookbook." Walls are decorated, as they always have been, with signs sharing the pithy humor of late founder Oliver Wintzell, whose dedication to the best oysters "fried, stewed, or nude" continues to this day. Of course, the menu boasts more than oysters, and hungry appetites are happy to find stuffed crab, blackened shrimp, and flounder béarnaise as well.   (© 10Best)
