LIENKAUF.   Insiders deem this upscale eatery, tucked away in Mobile's Lienkauf neighborhood (west of downtown off Government Street), as one of the area's best places to sink your teeth into homemade Italian pies. Indeed, delicious brick-oven pizzas have earned this joint its stellar rep, a status only enhanced by the menu's innovative takes on traditional Italian fare. Also contributing to the overall experience are impressive imported and domestic wines.   (© 10Best)

Hard to find but worth the hunt. Off the main street in a historical neighborhood. Had the "Marion Barry" pizza wow. Best pizza ive ever had. My friend had the filet with the gorgonzola cheese sauce, she said t was perfet (better than Ruth's Chris). Great courtyard as well. Will reurn again. Mobile best restaurant by far.

Good. Read several great reviews, but just good. With wine and tip, spent short of $70 for two, and was fairly pleased with the value. The house salad with the walnutty raspberry vinegarette is a better choice than the Caesar, though they'll put anchovies on it if you want (what ever happened to anchovies on a Caesar??). The Pasta Achafalaya was good, but could have been spicier, and the tomatoes were mealy (really hard to find good maters anymore). The veal marsala was more marsala-tasting than it should have been, but was competent. Service was extremely friendly, and while the food was slow in coming, it wasn't a horrible boring wait and the wait staff made sure we had what we wanted. You'll want to get a map before coming, as it's slightly off the main streets and Google doesn't quite have the one-way streets right. Not that anyone pays attention to one-way streets here. Wouldn't come back, but not because it was awful -- more because we'd like to try something different next time. Try it -- beats the heck out of the chains. -- rg
