ROCK ISLAND. Harris Pizza and the various offshoots offering Harris-style pizza are Quad City staples. Harris's distinctive flavor and style – thin crust, an interestingly spicy and robust sauce, and a signature lengthwise cutting style – has deservedly gained fervent following. If you're visiting the area, Harris is a must-have delicacy. Although there are five Harris outlets, Rock Island's #1 and #2 (within a block of one another) offer the distinct tavern-style, homey and comfortable dining experience.

MOLINE. The Quad Cities have always been proud of their strong Belgian heritage – perhaps because a part of that heritage is a knack for preparing great food. Most locals agree that the best place to get sandwiches in the Quad Cities is at the Belgian Village Inn, a staple in Moline's Olde Towne area since the late 1970s. Regulars rave about the Inn's famous "Vanderueben," a grilled masterpiece that is as enormous as it is delicious. Each sandwich is made from scratch, using their tasty homemade bread. If a sandwich isn't up your alley, try a bowl of one of their soups or even something on the lighter side, like a house salad.

MOLINE. This local favorite has had a special place in the collective heart – and stomach – of the Quad Cities since founder Angelo Lagomarcino first opened his doors in 1908. The downtown Moline shop is famous for its delicious homemade chocolate goodies, ranging from huge Easter eggs to delectable sponge candy. Lago's is also a popular lunchtime place. After one of their deli sandwiches on homemade rye followed by a root beer shake, you won't want to go back to work!

DAVENPORT. If you're looking for an upscale place to dine, stop by this unique restaurant next to the Art Deco-styled Adler Theatre. Duck City greets patrons with candles and fresh-cut flowers before Chef Charles dazzles them with an innovative menu that includes entrees like applewood-smoked chicken, herb-crusted salmon, duck confit, and paella.

LE CLAIRE. After you spend an afternoon antique shopping and sightseeing in the quaint community of LeClaire, a peaceful dinner at the Faithful Pilot will be just what you need. This elegant restaurant, located in a historic building overlooking the Mississippi, is one of the Quad Cities' most respected restaurants, serving up excellent American fare in a setting that hearkens back to the early 20th century. House specialties include roast duck, Black Angus steaks and fresh fish and seafood. If you find yourself having to wait for a table, make your way to the bar area at the rear of the restaurant – the view of the river from there is unmatched.

MOLINE. If you have a layover in the Quad Cities and find yourself looking for a great place to eat dinner that is close to the airport, most locals agree that it's hard to beat this popular supper club. Although it doesn't look like much from the outside, owner Bud Canfield's baby-blue restaurant enjoys a fine reputation for its family friendly atmosphere and home-style steak and prime rib entrées. The Skyline's specialty, however, is its catfish, rumored to be the best in the area. Before dinner, head out to the observation patio and enjoy a few cocktails from the bar.

DAVENPORT. The Red Crow Grille has gained a fine reputation for its elegant atmosphere and menu. The cozy restaurant was designed with a Mediterranean theme in mind, with an open-style kitchen. Innovative entrées include everything from bouillabaisse and New Orleans Style Pasta served with chicken and shrimp, to blackened Gulf scallops and Pappardelle con Funghi. Follow with a delectable dessert such as cheesecake covered with honey syrup.
