3. Casino du Palais de la Méditerranée

Golden palm trees? Kitsch, yes, but what else would you expect with a name like the Mediterranean Palace? Built in 1929, the hotel-casino was totally refurbished in 2004 with a new layout and interior. The façade is a listed monument, facing the seafront on the promenade des Anglais. Le Frégate brasserie is replete with brightly painted walls and artwork, a tribute to erstwhile resident Henri Matisse. Don't miss the poolside bar: it's one of the top places in Nice to sip cocktails and watch the sun set over the sea. Admission: Passport required, must be over 18 yrs   (© 10Best)
